Every day, the doctors and staff at the Orthopaedic Hospital of Wisconsin work together toward a single goal: to deliver a total patient experience that's far beyond what you'll find anywhere else. As a physician-owned organization, we have unique freedom to go where others don't in the name of taking care of you. It's how we continue to build on our reputation of being relentlessly focused on all the patients we serve.

History

The Orthopaedic Hospital of Wisconsin was established in 2001 as a partnership between a group of physician owners and Columbia St. Mary's, a health system with more than 100 years of service. After eight years in its initial location, OHOW opened its current facility in 2009. This new, state-of-the-art campus was meticulously designed and constructed to support the delivery of superior patient care and comfort.

Today, OHOW is nationally recognized for the exceptional quality of care provided to patients. Perhaps just as important, the hospital, its physicians and its staff continue to garner rave reviews from those who have experienced OHOW's uncommon focus on every aspect of patient care.

Physician-Owned Hospital Disclosure

The Orthopaedic Hospital of Wisconsin is partially owned by physicians and meets the Federal definition of a "physician-owned hospital." A list of physician-owners is available upon request and we are happy to answer any questions you may have.

Facility overview

It all started with a group of the area's top doctors, a blank piece of paper and the chance to design a facility that raised the bar in patient care. A facility in which every detail would be painstakingly considered. The result is a hospital designed to deliver superior comfort and an uncommon focus on each and every patient.

Take comfort

Take comfort

If your care includes an overnight stay after a surgery, there is always a dedicated doctor (also known as a "hospitalist") just down the hall, 24 hours a day. Our hospitalists review your health history before your stay, monitor your progress after surgery, and are ready to assist the staff and answer your questions.

And it's important to note that neither you nor your insurance company will be billed for the care and comfort provided by OHOW's team of hospitalist physicians. Part of being uncommonly focused on you means having doctors nearby at all times while still controlling your healthcare costs.

What our patients say

DELIVERING AN UNMATCHED PATIENT EXPERIENCE.

OHOW's growing reputation is based in large part on the stories our former patients tell about their experiences with us. So what sets us apart from other hospitals and care providers? Listen to a few recent patients as they tell their stories.

"Best hospital stay experience! Everyone from the receptionist to security downstairs to the stay itself was unbelievably friendly and positive. Your hospital is the best kept secret in Milwaukee. I have recommended it to many others."

"The care, concern, compassion and consideration you all showed just makes everything much easier. I've taken every available opportunity to recommend the hospital to any and all."

Pre-op

Our goal is to make you as comfortable as possible on the day of your surgery. Simply, come to the Surgical Services Department located on the second floor of the Hospital. Please bring any papers and X-rays given to you by your doctor, and your insurance card.

We ask that you arrive 1 1/2 hours before your surgery to provide time to review your records and procedure and answer any questions that you may have.

We do our best to keep things on time, but some surgeries and procedures can take longer or shorter than expected and your surgery start time may vary slightly from the scheduled time. If this occurs, we will keep you informed.

Family and friends may wait in our reception area and can be with you before surgery in your pre-operative room and following surgery.
