Featuring One of OHOW’S Finest Physicians: Patrick Jost, MD

At the Orthopaedic Hospital of Wisconsin, we are proud to have some of the best and most talented doctors in orthopedic care on our staff. As part of our “OHOW’s finest physicians” series, we explore how those excellent orthopedic specialists embody excellence in patient care.

One of those OHOW doctors is Dr. Patrick Jost, a specialist in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery of the hip, knee, shoulder, and elbow. Dr. Jost is also skilled in minimally invasive knee, hip, and shoulder replacement. But what truly sets Dr. Jost apart is his dedication to patient care.

Having performed countless orthopedic procedures, Dr. Jost has touched the lives of so many of our patients, allowing them to regain the function of their vitally important joints. In addition to his talent for surgery, Dr. Jost is beloved by his patients and the OHOW staff he works alongside.

From a Patient to a Surgeon

Patrick Jost. MD became familiar with orthopedic surgery in the early years of his life. Born with a clubfoot, a birth deformity where a newborn’s feet appear rotated or twisted, his earliest memories are of the corrective orthopedic surgeries he underwent as an infant and young toddler. Throughout his childhood, Jost became fascinated by the surgical process that allowed him to gain the function of his feet.

Years later, at the age of 18, Jost found the surgeon who performed his corrective surgeries and observed him.

“He was at the end of his career at that point, and I watched him do a knee replacement,” Jost recalls. “This experience made it very clear that this is what I wanted to do.”

Jost went on to become a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Medical School. He then completed his orthopedic surgical residency at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, NY—the hospital ranked #1 in orthopedics by US World and Report Best Hospitals

To continue his training, Jost completed a fellowship at the Andrews Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, AL, where he learned and perfected many cutting-edge surgical techniques. He also traveled to Zurich, Switzerland, to train with international experts in comprehensive hip care.

Today, Dr. Jost himself is an expert in his field. Since his formal training in orthopedic medicine, he has continued to research and focus on improving the treatment of sports-related injuries. Additionally, he has authored articles and presented at international meetings on various orthopedic topics such as ACL reconstruction, rotator cuff repair, and arthroscopic treatment of the hip. Devoting a large majority of his time to studying and improving orthopedic treatments has been a life-long passion.

“Orthopedics is a fun field, and it’s very gratifying to make people feel better,” Jost said. “I get to cure people and solve their issues for good.”

Bringing Patrick Jost, MD’s Expertise to OHOW

After his extensive training, Dr. Jost—a Muskego native—returned to his roots in the Milwaukee area. “Training around the country, I wanted to work in a specialty or expertise that may not be otherwise available in Milwaukee,” Jost said.

In 2012, Patrick Jost, MD joined our staff at the Orthopaedic Hospital of Wisconsin. Since then, he has become a valued specialist at OHOW. From getting patients back to their sport or helping them restore essential mobility, he’s committed to helping patients with problems, large and small.

“I would recommend OHOW and Dr. Jost to everyone. I have complete trust in him and your facility. Dr. Jost is very caring and compassionate towards his patients, and his skills as a surgeon are out of this world,” one of his patients said.

With such a strong dedication to patient care, Dr. Jost also explains that his success comes from working with excellent support staff.

“It only takes a handful of patient encounters to figure out that OHOW is something special,” Jost said. “The staff here like their jobs, and they’re good at what they do. This positive approach rubs off on patients, and it makes it a great place for surgeons to work.”

Improving the Quality of Patient Care is His Top Priority

Patrick Jost, MD is constantly searching for ways to improve the quality of his care for his patients. He knows that keeping up-to-date on the latest techniques, products, and procedures is his top priority in a quickly evolving medical world.

“This is a job of lifelong learning,” Dr. Jost said. “Every time I do an operation, I’m thinking critically and trying to do better. I want to do a great job, and I want to always do an even better job on the next one.”

Not only does Dr. Jost focus on providing the highest quality care to his patients, but he also works to ensure each patient feels cared for and listened to.

“I’m a fast-moving, fast-talking person,” Dr. Jost said. “But I’m always sure to sit down with my patients and listen. I make sure that I’m answering any questions that they may have.”

Dr. Jost’s approach to patient care exemplifies our Three Critical Success Factors: Quality, Patient Satisfaction, and Staff Satisfaction. His work has earned him many accolades, like Milwaukee Magazine’s Top Doctor Award. At OHOW, we’re grateful for the work he does daily to care for his patients.
